NQF Amendment Bill
Untitled Document On Friday, 18 November 2016, the Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr Blade Nzimande, published the proposed draft National Qualifications Framework (NQF) Amendment Bill.
Amongst others, the proposed draft NQF Amendment Bill includes the following.

1. It will be compulsory for employers to refer their employees' qualifications for validation and verification to the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
2. It will be compulsory for employers to include signed acknowledgment forms from the purported qualification holder. The form will give the DHET a licence to publish a "name and shame" register of fraudsters. As part of the regulatory move, SAQA will register the name of the holder of a fraudulent or false certificate on its website.
3. Proposal imposing a legal obligation on employers to report fraudulent activity in the spirit of ending end ongoing scandals regarding this matter

It is imperative that members ensure that their qualifications are in order and that they are not claiming that they have the qualifications without actually having passed the examinations.

Please note that unless you are a paid-up member, have reported your Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and in the case of the CIA, have paid your re-certification fee, you are regarded as inactive and may not use any of the designations i.e. IAT, PIA, CIA. The IIA SA is legally obligated to provide records to SAQA regarding membership of the Institute and to remove members who are not in good standing with the Institute from the SAQA database.

The NQF Amendment Bill is open for public comment until the 18th of December 2016. The bill can be found here.
